Work History

Acting Medical Director/Assistant Professor, Stroke and Neurological Rehabilitation Medicine

Lady Reading Hospital
Peshawar, Pakistan
07.2019 - Current
  • Since joining Lady Reading Hospital as a Stroke Consultant in 2019, I have been actively involved in the care of acute neurological emergencies. Notably, I initiated stroke Thrombolysis services at the hospital, laying the foundation for time-sensitive, evidence-based stroke care. My responsibilities include managing acute stroke patients, leading Thrombolysis protocols on the Neurology Ward, and supporting the acute medical on-call rota. I also conduct regular ICU rounds for neurologically compromised patients, guiding their management and coordinating step-down care and rehabilitation planning to ensure smooth transitions to long-term care.
  • I was given additional responsibility of acting Medical Director in Dec. 2024.Under my leadership, Additional admission rooms were made functional in IBP—this greatly reduced patient waiting times, resolved the evening bed crisis, and increased institutional revenue. As Chair of the IBP Committee, I worked closely with consultants and administration to streamline patient distribution, ensure fairness, and improve service quality. Policies were reviewed, and gaps in evening specialist coverage were addressed, directly benefiting both patients and the hospital.
  • Recognizing the urgent need for stronger infection control, I personally took charge of the Infection Control Committee. With a multidisciplinary team, we implemented stricter surveillance, regular IPC rounds, and re-trained staff on hygiene protocols. Focus was placed on high-risk areas like ICUs, operating theatres, and emergency services. We established clear SOPs, strengthened outbreak response protocols, and initiated real-time monitoring to minimize hospital-acquired infections.
  • Clinical audits are now a regular and meaningful practice across departments. After conducting Master Training Workshops in 2023 and 2024, audit culture was revived in its true spirit. Departments now conduct structured audits with follow-up action plans, leading to measurable improvements in patient care and safety.
  • Dedicated HDU in Paediatric cardiology ward made functional for patients with high risk complex cardiac cath. procedures
  • Cardiology Department was completely renovated and will meet modern clinical standards. Next project is to renovate and improve facilities in cath lab. Service delivery was streamlined, procedural delays were minimized, and overall patient outcomes improved.
  • A dedicated committee has been constituted to lead infrastructure upgrades for the Department of Medicine. A strategic, phase-wise plan is now in motion to enhance facilities and patient experience.
  • The Pharmacotherapy & Therapeutics Committee was restructured to ensure greater clinical impact. Key achievements include: A hospital-wide Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) survey, awareness sessions and documented ADR reporting pathways implemented, formation of a Pharmacovigilance Subcommittee, launch of a structured education program for clinicians on rational prescribing and therapeutic decision-making.
  • Through the P&T Committee, we launched an institutional Antimicrobial Stewardship Program aimed at promoting responsible antibiotic use, reducing resistance, and improving prescription practices through education and oversight.
  • Active oversight ensured timely access to medications and surgical items for eligible patients under the Sehat Sahulat Program. Transparency, tracking, and coordination with clinical teams were improved.
  • Implemented standardized SOPs for documentation in line with national and international benchmarks. Medical Records Committee oversight was strengthened to ensure ethical, accurate, and secure patient record-keeping.
  • Encouraged and supported academic activities including departmental audits, research studies, workshops, and CME sessions—fostering a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
