Summary

I am a Civil Engineer with a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning, specializing in climate-adaptive infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and carbon market development. With over eight years of experience, I have led GHG mitigation initiatives including the CDM-registered Community Upgrading Project in Karachi, which targeted 1.3 million tCO₂e in emission reductions through low-emission technologies. I supported the Ministry of Climate Change on Article 6.2 readiness, developing LoAs, fNRB methodologies,Carbon Registry and MRV frameworks for Verra-registered projects. My work with UN-Habitat includes urban upgrading, refugee integration, and climate-resilient projects. I have also facilitated smart city cooperation through a Korea–Pakistan G2G MoU. Skilled in stakeholder coordination, policy advocacy, and capacity building, I ensure alignment with national priorities, SDG 11, and Pakistan’s NDCs. My expertise reflects a commitment to shaping inclusive, low-carbon, and future-ready cities.

Professional Highlights

Carbon Markets & MRV Expertise: Strong track record supporting Pakistan’s entry into Article 6 markets and international climate finance mechanisms. Provided direct inputs to the design and validation of carbon credit projects under VERRA and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Contributed to methodologies, PINs, and MADD documentation involving landfill gas recovery, water filtration, and slum upgrading.

Policy Advisory & Coordination (ATR): Serving as Country Representative with Project Team ATR, supporting the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC) on carbon market development. Key contributions include:

Ø Developing carbon and energy inventory methodologies, including Pakistan’s first fNRB (fraction of non-renewable biomass) framework.

Ø Facilitating government coordination at federal and provincial levels for Article 6.2 authorization and registry design.

Ø Proposing new carbon-related initiatives, advising on market readiness, and aligning private sector engagement with the Pakistan Carbon Market Policy Guidelines 2024.

Ø ► Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) – LH Consortium: Urban planning lead for the $30 million Community Upgrading and GHG Emission Reduction Project in Karachi. Contributed to GHG estimation and co-benefit documentation for interventions across 31 informal settlements, targeting over 500,000 residents. The project combined LED lighting, decentralized water treatment, and low-emission brick production, resulting in an estimated mitigation potential of 1.3 million tCO₂e.

Ø ► MRV & Carbon Project Preparation: Supported drafting of Monitoring Plans, Emission Baselines, and Verification Frameworks for Verra-registered safe drinking water projects in Punjab. Worked closely with MoCC&EC, ATR and buyers to ensure carbon revenue projections and compliance with corresponding adjustments under Article 6.

Policy & Regulatory Understanding: Strong grasp of Pakistan’s legal, environmental, and urban planning frameworks. Experienced with IEE/EIA processes, provincial EPA requirements, and institutional structures governing municipal solid waste and water resource management. Knowledgeable about Article 6 authorization procedures and corresponding adjustments under international guidance.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance: Hands-on coordination with MoCC&EC, CDA, PSPA, LWMC, and international development partners. Collaborated with UN-Habitat, UNEP, and GIZ on project planning, donor reporting, and multi-stakeholder consultation to ensure inclusive and locally owned interventions.

Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Infrastructure: Contributed to multiple climate-sensitive urban infrastructure projects, including:

  • School retrofitting and structural safety upgrades in KP
  • Slum upgrading and shelter improvements for urban refugee communities
  • WASH interventions and community-based solid waste solutions
These projects emphasized low-emission technologies, inclusive access, and alignment with Pakistan’s NDCs and the New Urban Agenda.

Urban Development & Housing (UN-Habitat, 4 Years):

  • Delivered a multi-city urban upgrading initiative in Karachi, Peshawar, Kohat, Haripur, and Quetta, focused on tenure security, basic service delivery, and resilience-building for Afghan refugees and host communities.
  • Supported workplan development, midterm reviews, and project implementation through community contracting, partnership frameworks, and field coordination.
  • Maintained program documentation, prepared reports, managed dashboards, and facilitated external communications with stakeholders and donors.

Safeguards & Social Inclusion: Actively applied UN social and environmental safeguard standards. Conducted stakeholder consultations, supported gender analysis, and designed grievance redress systems. My postgraduate research focused on affordable housing for industrial workers, exploring social equity and economic resilience in low-income urban settlements.

Project Controls & Technical Documentation: Produced BoQs, procurement packages, IFC-level drawings, and evaluation criteria for infrastructure and clean technology projects. Reviewed cost estimates, quality specifications, and institutional delivery mechanisms for field implementation.

Capacity Building & Field Support: Organized training sessions, stakeholder briefings, and technical workshops on carbon credit systems, climate financing, and inclusive urban planning. Provided surge support in field assessments, site surveys, and pilot testing of urban resilience interventions.
