Rotating Equipment Diagnostics Engineer

- Diagnostics of a chronic high vibration problem of a High Pressure Steam Driven Turbine (15 MW) driving a synthesis gas compressor train (Discharge pressure 210 kg/cm2) saving downtime of 12 days
- Predication of a crack in the shaft of a Steam Turbine through vibration diagnostics
- Equipment was attended on urgent basis and catastrophic failure of equipment was averted which may have resulted in the costly downtime of many hours
- Analysis of a vibration signature of a cracked impeller in high pressure ammonia pump
- This is a critical machine which runs at 25,000 rpm and feeds ammonia to urea reactor at a very high pressure of 210 kg/cm2
- Tripping of this pump results in the costly downtime of the plant
- Machine was taken offline in a timely manner and overhauled to avoid any further damage
- Day-to-day diagnostics of various rotating equipment vibration signatures, compiling proficient data reports and ensuring smooth operational running using latest state of the art equipments such as ADRE 408 and CSI 2130
- Creating and managing condition monitoring reports relating to varying range of in-house rotating equipment, and presenting records to senior team members
- Attended turnarounds of various plants including turnaround at SAFCO-IV plant at Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia as part of the FFC team

Lead Machinery Maintenance Engineer

- Management of major projects:
- Overhauling high pressure ammonia feed pump (20,500 rpm machine having a discharge pressure of 250 kg/cm2)
- Job scope included replacement of high speed and low speed shafts after a seizure of the pump due to choking of lube oil drain holes
- Specialized mechanical seals were replaced
- Impeller of first stage was also replaced owing to the cracks in the weld of nose
- Machine is crucial to plant operation and any malfunction in pump operation impacts plant production in a direct manner
- Overhauling of high pressure carbonate pumps (15,400 rpm machine having a discharge pressure of 163 kg/cm2)
- Job scope included replacement of buffer and flushing mechanical seals of the pump
- High axial thrust problem of the machine was also rectified by installing a shim behind the thrust bearing of the pump
- Planned overhauling air compressor (K-4421) HP casing due to observation of corrosion / rusting within compressor internals
- Job scope included replacement of rotor and machine casing diaphragms
- Machine is responsible for supplying high pressure filtered air to the primary reformer and downtime of machine results in costly plant production
- High vibration rectification of carbon dioxide turbine due to charring phenomenon
- Job scope included replacement of turbine outboard oil seal with modified design supplied by Nuovo Pignone
- Rectification of turbine hunting by tracing out the fault within control system of the turbine
- Extensive checks were carried out within the control oil assembly to pin point the problem which was rectified and downtime of the plant was saved
- Low pressure rectification across dry gas seal circuit installed on carbon dioxide compressor
- Problem was ultimately attributed to the compressor balance drum which was later verified during the overhauling of the machine
- Overhauling of high pressure passivation air compressor
- This is a Reciprocating compressor comprising of four stages and feeds air directly to the high pressure urea stripper
- Any downtime directly impacts the health of specialized cladding found within the urea stripper
- Supervising and managing preventive maintenance of machinery, maintaining upkeep and ordering spare parts for future maintenance
- Inspection and overhauling of various pumps installed at urea and ammonia plant
