My core responsibilities include:

1. Managing following pre contract activities of numerous projects associated with Fire Protection System design.

• Preliminary and detailed design of both passive and active systems of fire protection and life safety including type of occupancy (Area/Height and hazard content)), type of construction, Compartmentalization (Fire walls and Fire barriers), openings and penetrations (windows, fire doors and dampers), means of egress, fire detection and alarm systems, portable extinguishers, standpipe systems, automatic sprinkler systems and smoke management systems conforming to NFPA codes.
• Preparing technical reports in support of design.
• Review of architectural drawings for compliance with NFPA-101 and NFPA-5000 requirements.
• Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety design proposals.

2. Managing following contract stage activities:

• Preparation of pre-qualification documents, bidding documents and tender/pre-qualification notices.
• Pre-qualification of bidders, bids evaluations and award of contract.

3. Managing following post contract activities:

• Approval of materials/equipment submittals, shop drawings, mock-ups
• Inspection of installations
• Testing and Commissioning of fire protection installations

4. Directly interfacing with the client.

5. Mentoring junior staff.

6. Contributing to the overall business development of the company.

Designing (selection of materials, sizing and layouts), supervision of the installation and coordination of MEP and Fire protection works between client, consultant and contractor of following services/utilities for infrastructure development and building construction projects;

• Being MEP and Fire Protection Engineer/Coordinator, executed/coordinated of preliminary and detailed design and supervision of Fire Prevention and Fire suppression systems of projects which are further classified as;

Passive Protection

• Type and size (Area/Height and hazard content) of occupancy
• Type of construction (Structural member ratings)
• Compartmentalization
• Means of Egress
• Fire Wall/Partition/barrier

Active Protection

• Initiating Devices Layouts (Detectors and manual break glass)
• Notification Devices (Fire Alarms)
• Suppression System Design [Manual (Portable Extinguishers, Fire hose reel from standpipes and Fire Hydrants)/Automatic (Sprinkler System and Clean Gasses)]

ELECTRICAL (POWER)

1. Pre contract activities:

• Reviewed technical drawings developed by CAD drafters.
• Reviewed calculations and analytical data to maintain accuracy of drawings and technical reports.

I did my internship on a power cable installation project of Dubai Electricity Water Authority (DEWA) where I improved my analytical abilities and technical skills necessary for engineering applications.

• Acquired solid understanding of electrical engineering practice, electrical ring diagram, electrical key plan, 132/11 kv substation, industry-standard circuit design, installation, jointing, termination, testing and commissioning of electrical cables in substations.
• Supervised underground laying of XLPE power cables between 132/11kv substations.
• Provided on-site engineering and technical services during installation and fielding processes.
• Reviewed end-stage plans, equipment, work specifications and conditions for successful project execution.
