Acting Internship

Cleveland Clinic Foundation

  • Completed a 4-week elective ( 10 Feburary-4th April 2025) in advanced colorectal surgery under the direct supervision of Dr. Emre Gorgun, with exposure to colorectal cancer, and minimally invasive/laparoscopic approaches.
  • Participated in daily rounds with the colorectal surgery fellow, discussing overnight events, patient progress, and contributing to management plans during bedside evaluation.
  • Scrubbed in and assisted in OR: retracted tissue, suctioned operative fields, sutured incisions, and placed surgical drains in laparoscopic and open colorectal cases including colectomies.
  • Created and edited a video presentation on "Single-Port Laparoscopic Total Colectomy", incorporating operative footage and benefits over multi-port techniques.
  • Attended multidisciplinary tumor board discussions and departmental didactics focused on colorectal pathology, surgical planning, and long-term oncologic outcomes


Acting Internship

Cleveland Clinic Foundation

  • 1 month rotation in the department of Colorectal Surgery: Rectal prolapse and hemorrhoids with Dr. Anna Spivak.
  • Joined daily bedside rounds with the colorectal surgery fellow, actively contributing to discussions on overnight events, clinical progress, and management planning. Routinely performed post-operative wound care, including dressing changes and drain site assessments, under direct supervision of the surgical team.
  • Also got the opportunity to work with Dr. Kessler.
  • Scrubbed in and assisted in OR: retracted tissue, suctioned operative fields, sutured incisions, and placed surgical drains in laparoscopic and open colorectal cases including colectomies.
  • Attended weekly clinic: Took history, presented cases and updated notes in the Electronic Health Record System.

The Mount Sinai Hospital / Department of Hepatology and Liver Disease

  • Assigned individual patients for continuity of care; obtained detailed histories, performed physical exams, formulated assessments and management plans, and documented findings in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Delivered focused case presentations to the attending physician and participated in clinical decision-making discussions
  • Observed and assisted in percutaneous liver biopsies, gaining exposure to procedural indications, technique, and post-procedure monitoring

Eastern Pain Medicine

2-week outpatient rotation under Dr. Nagendra Upadhayula (Board-Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine)

  • Gained hands-on experience with interventional pain management procedures, including lumbar facet medial branch blocks (LFMB), transforaminal epidural steroid injections, and radiofrequency ablation
  • Counseled patients on opioid safety, conducted assessments for intrathecal morphine pump refills, and interpreted urine toxicology screens for suspected misuse or noncompliance
  • Observed longitudinal management of patients with chronic pain syndromes, contributing to care planning and follow-up

 Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai

  • 1-month hands on rotation in the Department of Cadiovascular surgery.
  • Participated in morning rounds, taking vitals of patients and updating any important findings that took place overnight in the Electronic Health Record System (EHR).
