Frederick Stratford-Martin

In this role I have developed my teamwork and leadership as supervisor, managing shifts, stock and the pub. In my role I am responsible for ensuring that a shift runs smoothly and that any problems are dealt with effectively and swiftly. I also have to manage counting the cash at the end of a shift to ensure the recorded transactions are accurate.

During this employment at the GP practice I was given much more responsibility, dealing with booking appointments, arranging blood tests, taking calls and dealing with emergencies, or handing them onto the appropriate members of staff when necessary. This taught me a lot about time management, organisation, dealing with difficult situations and the stress of working in a busy environment.

Working in a school gave me more responsibility, and allowed me to improve my organisational and professional skills. I ran several clubs for the children as well as, assisting with organising lessons alongside the teacher.

As my first employment after finishing school I was excited to enter the adult working world. I worked for several months at borough market on a fudge stall which helped to improve my communication skills with customers. I also was required to do stock and inventory, as well as performing the cash up at the end of shifts. In addition to this, working in a busy environment helped me with managing high workloads and stressful shifts.

This was my second job with much more interaction with the general public. I would often serve multiple tables at once which developed my time management and as I worked this job during my A-Levels this also helped with managing my work and study life balance.

I worked in this GP practice as a 15 year old getting my bearings in the working world. At this time there was little patient interaction apart from phone calls, however, I did learn much about interacting with members of the public and this assisted with developing my communication skills.

One of my main roles was to summarise patient information from physical files to electronic ones and this taught me how to effectively take critical information from large pieces of text.
