Company Overview: I am currently working in the Quality Control Laboratory (QCL) at Attock Refinery Limited through UHRS.
Sampling and quality control analysis of crude oil and distillates:
Collect and label crude oil samples from bowzers and storage tanks to ensure accurate tracking and analysis.
Performing quality check of different crude oils received in the refinery by performing Specific gravities ASTM D1298, Salts ASTM D3230 & Basic sediments and water ASTM D4007.
Conduct LPG sampling from storage bullets and various plant locations to monitor product consistency.
Conduct sampling of various petroleum distillates like PMG, JET A-1/8, kerosene oil,Diesel oil, Furnace fuel oil from distillation unit sampling points and also from storage tanks.
Performing quality control analysis of raw distillates obtained from petroleum, such as LPG, naphtha, kerosene, MTT, Jet A-1, JP-8, HSD, LDO, JBO, furnace fuel oils, and bitumen, in rotating shifts, along with a team, to ensure the product meets the standards. Those tests are performed which are listed in PSQCA specifications.
Maintaining data using Laboratory Information Management Software
Performing housekeeping of the lab area, equipment, and glassware.
Wet analysis (process water):
Performing basic tests of process and produced waters, such as pH, chloride, sulfide, iron, TDS, and TSS.
Sulphite and phosphate in boiler samples.
Performing daily analysis of effluent water going out of the refinery by performing tests such as pH.
Recording daily environmental condition such as humidity and temperature to ensure lab conditions
Finished product analysis and commercial testing:
Performing quality checks and completing testing of all the finished products to meet the specifications set by the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).
Analysis of finished products includes export-grade naphtha, premier motor gasoline, kerosene, mineral turpentine oil, jet aviation fuels, high-speed diesel, light diesel oil, jute batching oil, furnace fuel oils, and bitumen.
Expertise in testing of aviation fuels includes Jet A-1, JP-8 according as per requirements set by DEF-STAN 91
Maintaining product certification logs manually, as well as keeping records in LIMS software, as per ISO 17025 requirements.
Performing housekeeping of the lab area under testing as well as maintaining the equipment
Performing detailed testing of commercial products according to the customer's demand, and joint testing with them also when possible.
Participated in yearly ISO 17025 audits
Conducted regular trials of a new batch of chemicals received by the refinery to be later used in the finished products, such as static dissipator additives, colored dye for gasoline, and pour point depressors, etc.
Additional responsibilities & areas of expertise :
Have basic knowledge of ISO 17025
Perform any task according to the instructions given by the shift officer.
Communication effectively with the team and shift officer in case any abnormality in the sample under testing arises
Maintaining equipment, as well as keeping check for possible malfunctions or equipment failures if they arise.
Housekeeping of the lab especially the area and the equipment under testing before and after the test
Keeping the glassware and other inventory
Becoming a member of emergency backup squad along with the team in case any emergency situation arises
Performing monthly firefighting trainings and training the junior staff on safety measures necessary for an emergency situation
